Advertorial experiences, Testing, learning curve, Portfolio

Good morning to WordPress and for admins.  Just doing some testing here in the Premium blog on features available and what is happening as a user of WordPress under this new Gutenberg style.  By the way, I would not want to blog any other place than WordPress?  So the idea of not sharing how great WP is?  Doesn’t work for me.  I have already recommended it to friends in Europe and an American artist and surfer I know over in FB.  So, what if I didn’t want my WP ads turned off?  I don’t!  Even though I bought “Premium.”

More thoughts this morning.  I did a test Advertorial post over in “Portfolio” because I am loving Gutenberg really so very much.  It’s the really lush pictures I can make so, super happy about that.

I am loving my delphiniums (in Gutenberg)!

Delphinium Blues

So, I am not sure where “Portfolio” went?  In terms of my blog, and how that will be as working with WordAds as a concept so testing all this and has the results for Jon Burke whose articles I was reading this morning.

It’s not clear about tagging vs not tagging or linking vs not linking on the WordAds concept so I can try that two different ways.  In this I am really supporting American made products in this redesign, for instance Purdy paint brushes that I love.  It had trouble on the upload for the one I got yesterday and I am about to use that one today!  So… showing that?  Was it the name I used?  Not sure.

Screen Shot 2018-09-07 at 12.03.27 PM

It was a close up of a picture I put in FB this morning.  I’m super happy with the way it looked?  So just showing you for admin style…

These photos are all mine but I’m not copyrighting them?

Screen Shot 2018-09-07 at 12.08.40 PM

Purdy is a really fab American brush company.  I have gotten their brushes all my life.  One thing I want to do with this advertorial thing is to show all the “real local people” at places like Ace that are helping me here in town.  So a huge deal for me?  Americans in American jobs.

I loved what I saw about WP up in Detroit?

I watched that.  Loved that.

Anyway not clear on the social media aspects quite yet, but looking around at how others are blogging a bit and have seen some great examples this morning.

I can’t seem to “share” my Portfolio project that I just wrote and I think I see why?  So this is for the WordPress Happiness Engineers.

My old blog Valentine Bonnaire and the children’s book I wrote were ways that I could share from WP in the PAST?

The way I am sharing to FB NOW is as myself, as adriennewilson.art – or adriennedwilson.com and that should be linked to my real FB “self” so here was a pic I just took:

Screen Shot 2018-09-07 at 1.29.53 PM

I think I made those pages in FB back in 2009 which was the year I even joined FB?  I was blogging in those years as my nom de plume and that was a book I wrote that I intend to promote here on my real WP blog as soon as I can figure out how in Woo Commerce and maybe with the business plan here in WP – hmm. Things are starting to make sense!  My Gravatar is now linked to MY REAL FB!  Hugs, and onward.

I ❤ WordPress!

Ethics, Advertorial, WordAds, continued…

How to make Advertorial “ethical” in WordPress, because, WordPress is ethical.  It’s run by a Capricorn.  I’m one too, so…

I have been talking about styles of advertorial and what I might use “Profile” for to write up an advertising campaign?

I’m doing a redesign with paint, and let me show you how an artist does a thing like this, because the project began last October, can you believe it?

With one tiny can of Valspar Paint called “Delphinium Corsage.”

I fell in love with the paint chip.  Three paint chips actually.

Paint changes everything.

If writing an Advertorial that is also a testimonial, show the pictures!

IMG_0994

Valspar had me at the name “Delphinium Corsage” because I love the flowers.

IMG_0993

How do you begin to describe a name for a paint color like that?

Artists made that color.

IMG_0986

I loved the blue.

At my local hardware store, they mixed the color for me in a little test can.

IMG_0975

Then I began to think how pretty blue and white was going to look.

I bought some little Spanish plates,  and some little flower plates from China at Pier One, along this theme.  I decided I’d make a statement on the walls with these.  Here are the patterns:

IMG_0984

IMG_0985

So, if I am going to write an Advertorial as a Testimonial, I’m actually going to walk you through how I did things.

Because I am an artist.

If I am going to write for WordAds, and the words are going out all over the world?

Valspar might want to see how they have inspired me.

What a company like theirs might want is to show the paints as ads?

Especially after I show the transformation.

In a case like this I might use “Portfolio” and put links?

I’m not sure how WordAds will work yet, but I am  loving Gutenberg.

Selling books, WordAds, Gutenberg, Global Reach…

So I have just come from reading this regarding Amazon and I have a little tale about all of this for WordPress admins.

I realize this is a time of Media Giants, and frankly, I like this one the best because I started here.  So it’s not clear what is actually going on with that company.  Especially if you were an author who put a book up for sale in there, which I did.

How I go about marketing or selling anything in the future is going to be here in WordPress, and I’m not sure about Twitter.

It was in 2007 that I found WP through a Google search on politics, and I made a blog.  Hard to believe it is that long ago.  I’m going to show you an experience I had in the era 2016, and I am still not sure what to make of that.  I prefer the reality based web.  What I mean by that is that I know who Matt is, not just because of news stories I followed but because of this great company.

Like so many we are looking at the news today on these tech giants so I will say what I use them for.  In Google I search for breaking news, daily.  I would also tend to use Google if I needed to search for things, doing that with search strings of “WORDS” so lately I have been doing that same thing in Facebook, and also in Twitter.  I used that here yesterday and today in WordPress to watch a presentation the founder and inventor of WordPress made at that WordCamp in Europe.  It was great to be able to see that here, “inside” WP itself.

WordPress is how I learned about Facebook and Twitter.

I had WordPress first.

The share buttons are something I made on my old blog Valentine Bonnaire and I joined Facebook first in something like 2009 as my nom de plume. Twitter under my nom de plume just as I had that blog in here.  So, it was around that same time I heard of Twitter and I joined that too.  In 2016 something happened.  I’m still not sure what that was?  I’d like to find out.  So I will talk about all this here in WordPress and show some visuals on that too.

Yesterday I was reading a piece on the Orwellian qualities of these tech giants, and all of us are watching the news?  On this.

For me WordPress has always been human.

I think that might be because of Matt.

So anyway,  I was @bonnaire.  For years.  Let me show you some proofs of that, and it will take editing this post from two different computers.

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 4.57.04 PM

From this new Mac, @bonnaire only exists as that flower.  Well, whatever.  I exist on Amazon because I have a book for sale in there.  Yesterday I was thinking after talking to the Happiness Engineers here, that maybe when my domain name expired, I couldn’t log back in to Twitter?  At the time I felt it was censorship?  Was it or not?

During the election that was very toxic I read the Assange tweets off Wikileaks.

Oh well, I’m an adult.

So, I’m not sure how I feel about all of this, as an American.  I can tell you one thing as a Californian, I trust Matt because he is a Texan.

I was using my Twitter during NaNoWriMo and having a ton of fun in 2009 when I wrote a first novel there.  I am VB-Demoiselle in there, and the novel I’ll be working on, as memoir this year is about 20 years working for the newspaper industry.  It will be about the merger and buyout era years 1981 – 2001, what that was like and so forth. So, here in WP we are all different ages, demographics and so forth.  What unites us is that we are writers?  ❤

Advertorial, research, storytellers, WordAds, Demographics, continued…

So, more research yesterday for the art of Advertorial and Testimonial ads here in WP.   Gutenberg is story, and provides the vehicle for that.  A good piece on the lost art of copywriting here.

So I tried a test based on something I put through FB yesterday to see what happened after reading here in WP about the FB/WP dilemma at the WP blog.  I wanted to see if anyone clicked through from FB over to WP, they did not and I took the pix to prove that.  So I am going to try again today with that link as a cut and paste and ask European friends if they can see.

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 4.17.23 PM

There seems to be so much going on with the social media companies it’s hard to keep up, or keep things straight.  Anyway, I am using a new system now.

Stats on yesterday:

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 4.18.22 PM

Friends could see and remark when I put this photo, but it was as if the WP post was invisible to them?

So I am not really using anything but WP right now.  I’m not sure which of the social media companies can be trusted at this point, besides WordPress, given the news about FB and Twitter.

WordPress is calm, smart, and lovable.

Not sure what to say about the others…

Doing a test this morning to see if still invisible FB using a link.  This was a post on advertorial yesterday,  renewed for today:

Screen Shot 2018-09-05 at 7.25.53 AM

So this was a test to see reach on a link from last night.  I was only making reference to a story, but this is the way I would use linking in Portfolio.

Today I will write something up on that.  Yesterday I looked around at sites and will show what I mean by demographics.

Screen Shot 2018-09-05 at 11.28.17 AM

This is what I always loved as a scholarly writer – the ability to link.  In the case of Advertorial and storytelling, this is the most important function.

So seven people have come by and one clicked through.

That would be a click where advertorial could run a product.  Going to do a mockup for that and run a test through.  I will do that in FB too.

Screen Shot 2018-09-05 at 11.42.00 AM

So this is this morning, a friend has been by, but I don’t know if she clicked through.  She has read my children’s book “Heart of Clouds” and loves it.  I want to market that globally, and I plan to do that from here in WordPress.

I love WordPress, and  I never fail to promote it.  Across the globe, with other writers.

Branding, Advertorial, Demographics, WordPress and reach, continued…

Good morning to friends around the world!

IMG_0960

So, I have been talking in the last few posts from a branding viewpoint about ethics and advertising and what is called a testimonial ad.  I have been talking about paint, and that was Valspar paint, which I am buying to do over a very tired old room.  I’m doing this project myself as an artist and so this is where I think WordPress and the new Gutenberg style of doing things “mesh” but let me show you what I mean about “global reach” on something like this.

This was this morning:

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 9.22.50 AM

We talked about how companies are using advertising on Twitter, and looked at that.

Where do Testimonials and Advertorials meet in a field that has the incredible global reach WordPress has?

Well, you are looking at that in these stats.

But let’s begin to think about what that would look like in a Testimonial ad that was “branding” a page with an actual product.  I think the Portfolio concept is where I might write an advertorial campaign.

I am using many different things in this redesign that could be branded “to me” here in WordPress.  This design has global feel, because of where all the products originate and the stores they came from, so I would show that as well.

Let me show you the look of the first two painted doors and the paint I used, that I got from an antique dealer here in town.  It’s fantastic paint.  A joy to use, and my first time trying chalk paint.  It’s also made here in America, and I want to support as many of those companies as I can.

IMG_0956

The chalk paint is NOT a Valspar product.  It’s by a company called Old Town Paints, here in California.  I’m going for a Delft style in the blue and white, the knobs come from India.

What does this have to do with Advertorial and WordAds?

The minute I start talking about what things I am using and the companies that made them?

Those are the ads that could run advertising on my page or buy space on my page.

In this way, it is ethical.

In this way it is not just any old paint company that hops aboard.

In this way the company is getting “intellectual  property” of the writer, and the work of the artist, but it is the artist showing you “how.”

When we think of Advertorial in this way it is a different animal altogether.

Like I said I ❤ WordPress for so many reasons you would not even believe it.

“Realness” and Advertorial, Demographics

Realness in the Web.  What does that mean for human beings?  What does that mean across all demographics?  Across age groups?  Across human lives, and adding in Semantics and language.

So when I first “entered” the web as a writer, it was “myself” but I chose a nom de plume like many writers do.  This last year, I decided to “drop” that.  So  FB is “realness” and now this blog is also “realness” – this is a difficult concept to grasp given these times we all seem to be in.  Realness is better.  Realness is Really YOU.

Okay so, I would never have thought at one time I would want to monetize “myself” but now I do.  In life you know, we go through so very much.  Educations, careers, relationships – across “time,” but what humans go through is pretty much the same?

They face the same things, the same basic emotions, the same wants and drives, loves, feelings of sadness, all of it.

This last year I took two books with me to the SB Writers Conference.  I have a short story in both of them.  So, here are pictures of those book covers.

book-lovers-cover-small-199x300

Story is “A Little Irish Honey” and here is the book over in Amazon.  I loved the cover an that book.  https://www.amazon.com/Book-Lovers-Stories-Under-Covers/dp/158005529X

Before that I was in this one for “Flowering”  https://www.amazon.com/Mammoth-Book-Quick-Dirty-Erotica-ebook/dp/B00OGUT3I0/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1535982285&sr=1-1&keywords=Quick+and+Dirty+erotica  I wasn’t crazy about the cover on this one.  Really.

Being a writer is not the most “money making” thing I have ever done, believe me.

But it might be one of the most fun.

I had TOTAL FREEDOM.

So anyway, the persona of my old blog.  It is hard to believe I did that much writing here in WP.  That thing was like a running scroll.

So when you look at yourself in the web what do you see?

Little pieces?

Little things you said or felt?

Groups of people you used to know or still do?

So anyway.

Monetization.

I was thinking this morning I could probably do that with Advertorial copy.

So this is a new frontier, but I want my old blog there too?

That is like my history, oddly so.

So I am reflection on all the short stories I wrote that were published and the little book I put together that is in Amazon.  Imagine if those were translated?  I mean that would be ‘global” audience for me.

As a writer.

So anyway more thoughts on this, because I’m sick of not working.

It was a pretty big deal becoming a published writer, it really was.

The FREEDOM in being a writer is that you write anything you want.

So last night I was looking at my old presence in the web as a screenshot of  “Valentine Bonnaire”  I’m not sure how it would be to “integrate” that blog into this one or even how.  I was thinking I should pay to keep that alive?  Except that this is my new blog home.  https://valentinebonnaire.com/ Imagine that was me in WP since 2007.  I think it might have been New Year’s Day when I started it.   That is coming up on 12 years soon.  It’s just wow, when I think of this and how much time.

Advertorial, continued…

Continuing along the path to what is included in Premium as I figure out about WordAds and how that is being run and used here in WordPress.

I’m really glad to have met Jon Burke.

So let me show you what I was looking at yesterday.   I see I’m not able to “categorize” and tag right now, that is fine by me.  These posts are for the internal admins, anyway.  And for myself.

So I have screenshots of things from yesterday.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 5.45.59 PM

First looking into what Jetpack is.

I remember there was a year when you could “buy” this?  And now it is included in Premium.  I’m not sure what it does, exactly but I did see something that was interesting to me, and this is around the concept of Demographics.  And language usage.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 5.58.23 PM

I did a little research to see what the ads were looking like, here and read this piece.

So I am looking at a banner ad.  The question would be do I WANT to brand with that company?

Perhaps I don’t.

In this case I would want control over what is on my page, and I am assuming that the Business version of WP would allow for that.

So I would always want to be branded with WP, but not the company I see in the banner.

So here is how demographics work.

In my demographic we might not want that brand, and we might prefer that brand in a glass bottle.  (Because of too much plastic in the sea).

So in this piece from four years ago or so the author took it upon themselves to do a huge survey and it’s worth a read.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 6.13.23 PM

Further down on the page we see an ad that does fit with my demographic.  How this got there is because I was actually looking at that company a week or so ago?  As with anything you look at in the web, it tends to pop up in ad form.  I would not mind branding with say that company or Williams Sonoma.  Why?

I might like or buy a product from them to cook with.

So for me, “Taste” in terms of who could advertise matters.

So I saw something over at Jetpack yesterday.

It was under the Proofreading function about editing?

Editing of content, and I felt, well, how does this work with various demographics when it comes to WORDS themselves.  WordPress is ABOUT using Words.  The red line is fab.  The green may not be?  Here is why.  As a writer you want total freedom to express and suppose you wanted to speak of the poet e.e. cummings who broke all grammar rules?

So “realness” and language use as human beings.

Eventually most of us will try our hand at doing a paint project on something, be that a wall or canvas.

For me as an artist, doing a redesign has required much thinking from an artistic standpoint on this paint project I am doing.  I am using more than one brand of thing for this.  So there are many things I could talk about such as all the paints, how I did something, how I chose the palette and so forth.

What I like best about WordPress is the “realness” of the writers.

Okay so back to that ad site to show you another picture.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 6.15.08 PM

This ad appeared at the bottom.

There are three ads I saw.

Of the three only one mattered to me.

I would not “click through” via the blog?

I know where the shop is here in town.  Seeing the ad did not help me either decide to go shopping at that store to buy the little tomato shaped pot I thought was cute and looked at once, not the charming pumpkin and tomato tureens I like at Williams Sonoma.

So this is where Advertorial comes in.

If the blogger had waxed rhapsodical and meant it over one of these products?

I would sense what Demographic I am looking at quite easily.

Around the purchase of the paint.

I did not go to a Big Box style store to make the purchase.

I went to a very small Hardware store here in town where my demographic likes to shop.

The closing of the chain Orchard Supply Hardware has made me very sad of late.  My demographic is nostalgic for much simpler times.

Concepts in Advertorial, from Advertising – WordAds

Again some thoughts for WP admins and all others.  Have a few pix for you today but also showing a few experiences as well over last few days.

#1 I am not sure why any email I get from WordPress goes to the spam folder, and I really don’t like that.  I rarely check email.  It bores me to do so.  More and more any talking I do is behind the scenes in Facebook, as it is really fast.

#2 I would prefer to have a conversation right here at my blog.  Ease!

#3 I decided I would go look at my email yesterday, specifically for WordPress and I noticed that it is similar to what FB does there, EXCEPT!  I got an email asking me to join a group called WordAds.  In WordPress.  I accepted.  Really happy about that.

Okay so shows you the Pilgrim’s Progress via screenshots, and talks a bit about ads and demographics.  Who is the market?  This is the first question.  In Demographics being in WordPress represents a segment of the population.  Key concepts = Freedom + Elegance + Ease – so in a sense the advertorial “WordAds” represent readers who choose to BE HERE vs other things.

In a way, your blog is YOUR BRAND.

Your blog is your brand under the WordPress Brand.

I would never want to NOT ADVERTISE WordPress itself at the bottom footer on my pages.

That is called “BRAND LOYALTY.”

I would always want the logo for WordPress in my footer, and so I did that.  It signifies my own brand loyalty.

What are demographics?

Demographics are “like groups” under various umbrellas, but they are not sheep.

For instance, I am loyal right now to Valspar Paint for the exquisite quality and texture.  Now let me show you some pictures.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 3.55.01 PM

This is their presence on Twitter, which I am no longer using at present.  You are looking at the company “advertising” itself.  One of the things I noticed was that they had developed a BPA free can for the paint?  This matters to my demographic.  We would see that as “GOOD.”  So, demographics are about finding a “niche” that is “like you.”

Advertising is about “selling something” to others.

I loved that the invitation was in my email so I joined!

Here is that picture.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 5.35.05 PM

This is what I meant yesterday about “goodness” in the WordPress world.

It’s made up of like minded people under the WordPress brand.

My sentiments exactly here: https://bloggingkits.org/wordpress-announces-yet-another-maintenance-update/

I hope it is the same Mr. Burke mentioned in this article.

Thank you for the invitation to the WordAds Group.

I have some more visuals upcoming that are screenshots for you.

I’ll talk some more about what I think in terms of design and why WP is the most elegant place to run Advertorial.

I ❤ WordPress

Very glad to have met Jon Burke – https://wordads.co/author/jonburke/
