Selling books, WordAds, Gutenberg, Global Reach…

So I have just come from reading this regarding Amazon and I have a little tale about all of this for WordPress admins.

I realize this is a time of Media Giants, and frankly, I like this one the best because I started here.  So it’s not clear what is actually going on with that company.  Especially if you were an author who put a book up for sale in there, which I did.

How I go about marketing or selling anything in the future is going to be here in WordPress, and I’m not sure about Twitter.

It was in 2007 that I found WP through a Google search on politics, and I made a blog.  Hard to believe it is that long ago.  I’m going to show you an experience I had in the era 2016, and I am still not sure what to make of that.  I prefer the reality based web.  What I mean by that is that I know who Matt is, not just because of news stories I followed but because of this great company.

Like so many we are looking at the news today on these tech giants so I will say what I use them for.  In Google I search for breaking news, daily.  I would also tend to use Google if I needed to search for things, doing that with search strings of “WORDS” so lately I have been doing that same thing in Facebook, and also in Twitter.  I used that here yesterday and today in WordPress to watch a presentation the founder and inventor of WordPress made at that WordCamp in Europe.  It was great to be able to see that here, “inside” WP itself.

WordPress is how I learned about Facebook and Twitter.

I had WordPress first.

The share buttons are something I made on my old blog Valentine Bonnaire and I joined Facebook first in something like 2009 as my nom de plume. Twitter under my nom de plume just as I had that blog in here.  So, it was around that same time I heard of Twitter and I joined that too.  In 2016 something happened.  I’m still not sure what that was?  I’d like to find out.  So I will talk about all this here in WordPress and show some visuals on that too.

Yesterday I was reading a piece on the Orwellian qualities of these tech giants, and all of us are watching the news?  On this.

For me WordPress has always been human.

I think that might be because of Matt.

So anyway,  I was @bonnaire.  For years.  Let me show you some proofs of that, and it will take editing this post from two different computers.

From this new Mac, @bonnaire only exists as that flower.  Well, whatever.  I exist on Amazon because I have a book for sale in there.  Yesterday I was thinking after talking to the Happiness Engineers here, that maybe when my domain name expired, I couldn’t log back in to Twitter?  At the time I felt it was censorship?  Was it or not?

During the election that was very toxic I read the Assange tweets off Wikileaks.

Oh well, I’m an adult.

So, I’m not sure how I feel about all of this, as an American.  I can tell you one thing as a Californian, I trust Matt because he is a Texan.

I was using my Twitter during NaNoWriMo and having a ton of fun in 2009 when I wrote a first novel there.  I am VB-Demoiselle in there, and the novel I’ll be working on, as memoir this year is about 20 years working for the newspaper industry.  It will be about the merger and buyout era years 1981 – 2001, what that was like and so forth. So, here in WP we are all different ages, demographics and so forth.  What unites us is that we are writers?  ❤

Learning to sell on WordPress

This is for the WordPress admins and also for myself as rank beginner in the new world that is Gutenberg, so learning curve, what I think I know, things I don’t know how to do, things I would like to do, and so forth.

I never thought that I would want to actually monetize my blog, but this year I do.  So, here goes.  The idea that my books or short stories might be able to be SOLD from my PAGE here in WordPress changes many things for me.  I am so tired of working for free for others, like you can’t believe.

My question has a great deal to do with Amazon this morning.  So my little short stories were all published as I said, and I gathered them together in a book – doing this was not easy trying to use so many different programs to collect the texts, and so many different computers along the way.  There has to be an easier way and I think Gutenberg is it.

So, I googled myself this morning again.

I got this:

Fab!

Because the top row does have to do with ME, but, what do the numbers mean from Google?

Those could be book sales?

Who knows what that means.

Where is the money?

So here is the deal.

At the SB Writers Conf this year there was a printer from Bakersfield in the bar very late on the last night of the Talent Show who said, “I can print your books” and I thought how fabulous.

Then, when I signed up for Gutenberg I saw news on WordPress and selling on WordPress by a company here in town called “FastSpring” – I liked that they were “real” in terms of Better Business Bureau and that was like “Wow!” but I no longer trust Amazon. I really don’t.  So that purple book in the top row?  Well that got a review over at Big Brain Erotica that was so stellar I fell off my chair.  I am not good at self-promotion, really I am not.  It’s considered impolite.

I want to sell the books in a new way and that means Woo Commerce but I’m not sure what steps to take next?

For instance would I buy the SEO Business WordPress?

I am really willing to do that.

I want to see sales.

So hugs!

I want to see GLOBAL SALES outside of the Amazon universe.

I think that might be FastSpring?

Any help is appreciated, so anyway – the market for a writer IS GLOBAL, and the new ability of WordPress with that “Pay Button” for advertorial also is.  I am feeling so sad here in California.  Every day I see people begging on the streets for food, nobody has a job anymore.  Orchard Supply Hardware is closing all the stores.

Trying to keep upbeat but it is so hard.

The thing is WordPress has always made me feel upbeat.

My blog was a place for ANYTHING since 2007.

So letting you know my thoughts as I try and figure out next steps.

In the meantime I am doing a craft project with the most incredible chalk paint.  I got this color called “Bliss” – it’s a blue that is so gorgeous, I can’t wait to take the pix and show you.  So, it’s almost September.

Apple Pie season.

Trying a WordAd Advertorial

WordPress the beautiful <3

I have always felt this way about the company.  In November when I start in on another novel, this one a memoir of the time working for a Newspaper in the years 1981 – 2001 I will be talking about all the challenges we faced dealing with the “tech” that was running things.  That was the hardest.  The programs didn’t work well, and the job was to put out the paper daily.

WordPress is stunning freedom for writers.

WordPress is FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, so this is a sacred thing, and also very much an American thing when it comes to First Amendment.

For me, I think I am going to be able to sell my books HERE and with the translation as global?  This is fantastic.

So I have to figure out how to do that, here on this page.  My little children’s book “Heart of Clouds” is beloved by Norway – a grandfather for his children, and also in Russia, by a mother for her little daughter.

So, the audience for a writer is Global.

My first favorite thing is the “Translation” and I ran that by some Europeans in Facebook to see how the gist of what I said actually translated using Facebook’s translate tool.  It worked, so they were able to use this WordPress feature, and I got a proof back!

You could see that on my FB feed.

It was this post.

Today I took two screenshots of what I can see from this old Mac that is about to be replaced by the fresh one.  So my site and the history of myself “in WordPress” or maybe in the web itself.

Good morning to friends

Good morning to my friends around the world.  I am trying a test to see if you can translate this message into your languages around the world.  Your help means everything to me at this juncture, for it means that my books can be translated.  If I were to tell you how happy I am about that?

Thank you so very much for trying this.

All my best to you,

Adrienne
