Advertorial experiences, Testing, learning curve, Portfolio

Good morning to WordPress and for admins.  Just doing some testing here in the Premium blog on features available and what is happening as a user of WordPress under this new Gutenberg style.  By the way, I would not want to blog any other place than WordPress?  So the idea of not sharing how great WP is?  Doesn’t work for me.  I have already recommended it to friends in Europe and an American artist and surfer I know over in FB.  So, what if I didn’t want my WP ads turned off?  I don’t!  Even though I bought “Premium.”

More thoughts this morning.  I did a test Advertorial post over in “Portfolio” because I am loving Gutenberg really so very much.  It’s the really lush pictures I can make so, super happy about that.

I am loving my delphiniums (in Gutenberg)!

Delphinium Blues

So, I am not sure where “Portfolio” went?  In terms of my blog, and how that will be as working with WordAds as a concept so testing all this and has the results for Jon Burke whose articles I was reading this morning.

It’s not clear about tagging vs not tagging or linking vs not linking on the WordAds concept so I can try that two different ways.  In this I am really supporting American made products in this redesign, for instance Purdy paint brushes that I love.  It had trouble on the upload for the one I got yesterday and I am about to use that one today!  So… showing that?  Was it the name I used?  Not sure.

Screen Shot 2018-09-07 at 12.03.27 PM

It was a close up of a picture I put in FB this morning.  I’m super happy with the way it looked?  So just showing you for admin style…

These photos are all mine but I’m not copyrighting them?

Screen Shot 2018-09-07 at 12.08.40 PM

Purdy is a really fab American brush company.  I have gotten their brushes all my life.  One thing I want to do with this advertorial thing is to show all the “real local people” at places like Ace that are helping me here in town.  So a huge deal for me?  Americans in American jobs.

I loved what I saw about WP up in Detroit?

I watched that.  Loved that.

Anyway not clear on the social media aspects quite yet, but looking around at how others are blogging a bit and have seen some great examples this morning.

I can’t seem to “share” my Portfolio project that I just wrote and I think I see why?  So this is for the WordPress Happiness Engineers.

My old blog Valentine Bonnaire and the children’s book I wrote were ways that I could share from WP in the PAST?

The way I am sharing to FB NOW is as myself, as adriennewilson.art – or adriennedwilson.com and that should be linked to my real FB “self” so here was a pic I just took:

Screen Shot 2018-09-07 at 1.29.53 PM

I think I made those pages in FB back in 2009 which was the year I even joined FB?  I was blogging in those years as my nom de plume and that was a book I wrote that I intend to promote here on my real WP blog as soon as I can figure out how in Woo Commerce and maybe with the business plan here in WP – hmm. Things are starting to make sense!  My Gravatar is now linked to MY REAL FB!  Hugs, and onward.

I ❤ WordPress!

Ethics, Advertorial, WordAds, continued…

How to make Advertorial “ethical” in WordPress, because, WordPress is ethical.  It’s run by a Capricorn.  I’m one too, so…

I have been talking about styles of advertorial and what I might use “Profile” for to write up an advertising campaign?

I’m doing a redesign with paint, and let me show you how an artist does a thing like this, because the project began last October, can you believe it?

With one tiny can of Valspar Paint called “Delphinium Corsage.”

I fell in love with the paint chip.  Three paint chips actually.

Paint changes everything.

If writing an Advertorial that is also a testimonial, show the pictures!

IMG_0994

Valspar had me at the name “Delphinium Corsage” because I love the flowers.

IMG_0993

How do you begin to describe a name for a paint color like that?

Artists made that color.

IMG_0986

I loved the blue.

At my local hardware store, they mixed the color for me in a little test can.

IMG_0975

Then I began to think how pretty blue and white was going to look.

I bought some little Spanish plates,  and some little flower plates from China at Pier One, along this theme.  I decided I’d make a statement on the walls with these.  Here are the patterns:

IMG_0984

IMG_0985

So, if I am going to write an Advertorial as a Testimonial, I’m actually going to walk you through how I did things.

Because I am an artist.

If I am going to write for WordAds, and the words are going out all over the world?

Valspar might want to see how they have inspired me.

What a company like theirs might want is to show the paints as ads?

Especially after I show the transformation.

In a case like this I might use “Portfolio” and put links?

I’m not sure how WordAds will work yet, but I am  loving Gutenberg.

Selling books, WordAds, Gutenberg, Global Reach…

So I have just come from reading this regarding Amazon and I have a little tale about all of this for WordPress admins.

I realize this is a time of Media Giants, and frankly, I like this one the best because I started here.  So it’s not clear what is actually going on with that company.  Especially if you were an author who put a book up for sale in there, which I did.

How I go about marketing or selling anything in the future is going to be here in WordPress, and I’m not sure about Twitter.

It was in 2007 that I found WP through a Google search on politics, and I made a blog.  Hard to believe it is that long ago.  I’m going to show you an experience I had in the era 2016, and I am still not sure what to make of that.  I prefer the reality based web.  What I mean by that is that I know who Matt is, not just because of news stories I followed but because of this great company.

Like so many we are looking at the news today on these tech giants so I will say what I use them for.  In Google I search for breaking news, daily.  I would also tend to use Google if I needed to search for things, doing that with search strings of “WORDS” so lately I have been doing that same thing in Facebook, and also in Twitter.  I used that here yesterday and today in WordPress to watch a presentation the founder and inventor of WordPress made at that WordCamp in Europe.  It was great to be able to see that here, “inside” WP itself.

WordPress is how I learned about Facebook and Twitter.

I had WordPress first.

The share buttons are something I made on my old blog Valentine Bonnaire and I joined Facebook first in something like 2009 as my nom de plume. Twitter under my nom de plume just as I had that blog in here.  So, it was around that same time I heard of Twitter and I joined that too.  In 2016 something happened.  I’m still not sure what that was?  I’d like to find out.  So I will talk about all this here in WordPress and show some visuals on that too.

Yesterday I was reading a piece on the Orwellian qualities of these tech giants, and all of us are watching the news?  On this.

For me WordPress has always been human.

I think that might be because of Matt.

So anyway,  I was @bonnaire.  For years.  Let me show you some proofs of that, and it will take editing this post from two different computers.

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 4.57.04 PM

From this new Mac, @bonnaire only exists as that flower.  Well, whatever.  I exist on Amazon because I have a book for sale in there.  Yesterday I was thinking after talking to the Happiness Engineers here, that maybe when my domain name expired, I couldn’t log back in to Twitter?  At the time I felt it was censorship?  Was it or not?

During the election that was very toxic I read the Assange tweets off Wikileaks.

Oh well, I’m an adult.

So, I’m not sure how I feel about all of this, as an American.  I can tell you one thing as a Californian, I trust Matt because he is a Texan.

I was using my Twitter during NaNoWriMo and having a ton of fun in 2009 when I wrote a first novel there.  I am VB-Demoiselle in there, and the novel I’ll be working on, as memoir this year is about 20 years working for the newspaper industry.  It will be about the merger and buyout era years 1981 – 2001, what that was like and so forth. So, here in WP we are all different ages, demographics and so forth.  What unites us is that we are writers?  ❤

Advertorial, research, storytellers, WordAds, Demographics, continued…

So, more research yesterday for the art of Advertorial and Testimonial ads here in WP.   Gutenberg is story, and provides the vehicle for that.  A good piece on the lost art of copywriting here.

So I tried a test based on something I put through FB yesterday to see what happened after reading here in WP about the FB/WP dilemma at the WP blog.  I wanted to see if anyone clicked through from FB over to WP, they did not and I took the pix to prove that.  So I am going to try again today with that link as a cut and paste and ask European friends if they can see.

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 4.17.23 PM

There seems to be so much going on with the social media companies it’s hard to keep up, or keep things straight.  Anyway, I am using a new system now.

Stats on yesterday:

Screen Shot 2018-09-04 at 4.18.22 PM

Friends could see and remark when I put this photo, but it was as if the WP post was invisible to them?

So I am not really using anything but WP right now.  I’m not sure which of the social media companies can be trusted at this point, besides WordPress, given the news about FB and Twitter.

WordPress is calm, smart, and lovable.

Not sure what to say about the others…

Doing a test this morning to see if still invisible FB using a link.  This was a post on advertorial yesterday,  renewed for today:

Screen Shot 2018-09-05 at 7.25.53 AM

So this was a test to see reach on a link from last night.  I was only making reference to a story, but this is the way I would use linking in Portfolio.

Today I will write something up on that.  Yesterday I looked around at sites and will show what I mean by demographics.

Screen Shot 2018-09-05 at 11.28.17 AM

This is what I always loved as a scholarly writer – the ability to link.  In the case of Advertorial and storytelling, this is the most important function.

So seven people have come by and one clicked through.

That would be a click where advertorial could run a product.  Going to do a mockup for that and run a test through.  I will do that in FB too.

Screen Shot 2018-09-05 at 11.42.00 AM

So this is this morning, a friend has been by, but I don’t know if she clicked through.  She has read my children’s book “Heart of Clouds” and loves it.  I want to market that globally, and I plan to do that from here in WordPress.

I love WordPress, and  I never fail to promote it.  Across the globe, with other writers.

WordAds, new Gutenberg blog, learning curve

So, Premium has some things I can recognize that I have been seeing for ages, and some things that I have no idea how they work.  So showing the pictures of those to the admins at WordPress.  One thing I have always loved about WordPress is that people share information very readily on how to do things.  So I know that I can research “what” these things actually are, right here in the search space.  I remember back to 2007 and the way it looked behind the scenes – there were two people I really liked here?  One was Lorelle and the other was Raincoast, I think the name was raincoast, or Raincoaster?

I felt that second person might have been from the Pacific Northwest based on the totem he used?

Now it is different, but if I searched I bet I could find them in Google.

So for me, Gutenberg IS ME, and I stand behind every single one of the words I have ever written either as my nom de plume or right now.

So the “tech” types have built all these apps and plugins and the learning curve for one like me is huge because “tech” was never my field to begin with.  What made WordPress easy was the PEOPLE that were here.  So it was a friendly place, right from day one in 2007, for me.   So today’s pictures.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 12.49.52 PM

This is what I mean by Global Reach.  On the peachy bar above the orange bar?  What I think that might mean?  Is that WordPress admins are in the peach space.  I remember once I used the word Ma.tt and saw he came by.  I like the peachy bar.  Because in this era “WORDS” matter.   Also, not scrubbing the web.  I think this is what Open Source means.  So somebody over in Egypt just read something I wrote.  Because of the translators?  Or maybe they spoke English and could read it.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 12.51.15 PM

I searched for Jetpak.  Look at the bottom of the page.

So because I am not tech, seeing “this feature is not available” is a warning?

Right now we are in a time when information is being controlled?  It seems to me that this is what Open Source is fighting.  Hence Firefox and WordPress.  I am trying to find out what Jetpak is as relates to WordPress only, but yeah, now they are making the actual jetpacks.  Many of the words “coined” for the internet are words you have to know, or look up using things like Urban Dictionary and so forth.   These are “generational” style tech words.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 12.52.17 PM

Began to watch first video and got a screenshot for WP admins.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 12.52.49 PM

Saw human being talking!

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 12.54.59 PM

this next one took a really long time to start, but I saw the ad at the top to the right on essential plugins!

Once I saw the plugins that were only for Business, this is how I have made my decision.

The top two pages I am not sure what they are for?

For today I am going to add the feedback page, if I can figure out how.

So, this is kind of how I have learned WP on this new Gutenberg deal.   I have no idea what all the plug ins are?

I really don’t!

I’m not kidding and I wouldn’t know which ones to get?

It seems like I would want those, though.

I can see that I have Jetpack BY WordPress as “already here.”

Here is the good thing.  I clicked on one or two of those plug ins and it explains what they are, in written form here in WordPress itself.

So that is the FRIENDLY part that WordPress has always been for me.  Since 2007.

Learning curve, hoping I am helping WP admins understand what a non-tech type like myself goes through, not kidding and hope I made you laugh!

What I am loving about Gutenberg

Again this post is for WordPress Admins, as it is a learning curve for me, and they can see how I am using it.  The first time I ever blogged was 2007, and it was on WordPress.  I think I might have made something that year over on Google as well, that year – but WordPress is my HOME.

So I made the blog because I was a published writer under my nom de plume Valentine Bonnaire in case anyone ever wanted to find or talk to me.  My blog covered so many different things, politics, recipes, I mean it is hard to count the number of things or even lump the blog into anything as just “one thing” at this point.  I wrote a ton of stuff from my MA in Depth Psychology over in that blog as well, so let me say how I use search engines to find things I wrote once upon a time – in Google.

Why I love WordPress is because of the search strings done with words?

So if I wanted Valentine Bonnaire Depth psychology object relations semantics cognition because I wanted to go backward to something I had said as scholarly that is how I can.  Who knows if I might put a book together on that sort of research in the future?  I might.

So, the “realness” and yesterday and day before around WordAds – two cool people have come by, one was from North Carolina, a state I think is fab and she talked about how she uses WordAds, and then another guy came by who is making T Shirts and doing Graphic Design – on both I could click through to their gravatars!  So here is a picture of the second guy today and see, because of the Gravatar I could go meet him in Facebook so I am loving THIS FEATURE of Gutenberg like you cannot believe.  Also in Facebook I have joined a group for Woo Commerce and people are talking about that – so the WordPress/Facebook connection makes total sense to me.

So, for you admins, here are my pictures today.

I think I might need the Business “WordPress” more than the Premium?

I’m not sure yet what it means about “adding Plugins” or even which ones I would use, however the BIZ WordPress seems much better for a writer.  These are my thoughts this morning.  I remember that I loved when I saw WordPress had made a thing like that.  I feel that in this desperate economy in America WordPress is the best thing that ever happened for guys like the T Shirt guy or myself.  As far as company loyalty goes, mine is to WordPress, and Firefox “first” and everything else “after.”  This is because the concept of “Open Source” means much to me.  I think what it means has to do with the search strings?

So for instance if someone wants to read about that and they knew my name and MA degree they could read me on Depth Psychology and trust the research that I did on my old blog.

So when I say I ❤ WordPress it is for those reasons.

Also it really makes me smile when I look at all the people who are WordPress people all over the world, and the founder of WordPress.

Okay so for me I want to sell books and maybe short stories that can be translated into all the languages?

I guess what I am is a “long form” style read.

The tools that WordPress gave me starting in 2007 as a blogger made things so easy to be a writer, like you cannot believe.  In the scholarly sense.

In 2018, WordPress is going to allow me to have a small business?

What could be better than that.

So my pics!

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 10.48.27 AM

Because he has a Gravatar he is REAL and the link over into Facebook is also real.

That is the T Shirt guy.

Screen Shot 2018-09-01 at 10.48.52 AM

How I was able to click through over into Gravatar, on the T Shirt guy, and saw he was real.

I ❤ WordPress.  I think that Matt is a genius, and all of the people who associate with him are very fine people.

I hope I am helping WordPress by writing how a “non-tech” type is using the new Gutenberg system.   Another thing I have noticed when reading certain news stories?

They are using WordPress, because I have seen “my site” up in the corner at the top bar.

So I really really liked that Matt is behind the Whitehouse.gov information pages.  I really liked that.

As soon as I found that out I said something in FB about that.

Okay more of the learning curve today around advertorial.

Also, this morning.  Yesterday I looked at Jetpack and a few other things.  I noticed this morning while I was watching a video in youtube that Jetpack was being marketed to ME.  That was okay, I am not sure what Jetpack is, but I know it is associated with WordPress and so a good thing.  Next time I see that I will do a screenshot, so you can see in here, in Gutenberg.

Advertorial test WordAds, continued…

Okay so good news on the Facebook front.  One of my friends did a “like” on the piece I FB’d and she is here in America.  I don’t think she clicked through, or I would have seen that in the stats.

Pic of that.

Screen Shot 2018-08-31 at 5.24.23 AM

So, what I put through FB was not “linked” to clickable sources.

I wish I could understand what WordAds look like on a page?

That would be useful.

Onward.

I’m not sure what Premium actually does, or the difference to Business actually does.

Researching a little this morning.

The learning curve is steep!

However, taking more pictures of today.

You can laugh now.

Okay I’m seeing this:

Screen Shot 2018-08-31 at 6.00.45 AM

I have no probs telling WordPress Admins that I can’t understand this.  Really.

Looked up this:

Screen Shot 2018-08-31 at 6.08.41 AM

Went over and checked out a few other sites to see what they look like.  I don’t want my WordAds to look like their pages do.   I used to work in advertising?  So I feel it should be integrated and seamless on the advertorial – this is difficult to explain.  Okay showing you what I read next, by searching for news on WordAds…

Screen Shot 2018-08-31 at 6.19.11 AM

This is a great article.

Okay so – not understanding what Domain Mapping is, not understanding what Premium is, not understanding if I need something like Blue Host and not understanding if I need to upgrade to Business for the SEO part.

Here is how I am feeling.

I want a really elegant site?

I’m not sure if my theme design is compatible with the WordAds concept?

For instance, if I were to blog about products they will be ones I have actually used?

This could be anything that I like or believe in.

How I am understanding the power of these ads as “translatable” across GLOBAL?

This would make branding with anything very valuable.  Very expensive for the advertiser.  They are getting “WORDS” that can go out across the world into all the different languages.

It’s amazing actually.

Thinking about the power and scope of WordPress 2018, in images…

So I tried a little test this morning with WordAds, except I did not link words because the computer was very slow.  It’s old and I haven’t set up the new one yet.  What I did was to Facebook from WordPress what I said about “Valspar, Delphinium Corsage” a few days ago.  In the meantime I have turned on my “get paid for WordAds” thing because I have “Premium.”  As I said, I might as well be a rank beginner compared to the rest of you “tech people” – so there were no comments by any of my friends on that post, which makes me think that they never saw it in FB, not kidding on that, for WordPress Admins.

At any rate, the “translation” button I have on my front page…

Well, what this means is that if I have made a positive and FUN posting, it can be translated AROUND THE WORLD into so many languages it’s uncanny.

So, earlier I checked my stats and a friendly very tech Italian came by for the second time.  I looked at his gravatar and also went to his page to see – he would be a TECH person up on things who blogs in here as well.  I took a screen shot to show you how I am thinking and using Gutenberg.

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 2.08.41 PM

Here are more images and thoughts…

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 2.38.44 PM

This is advertorial with a very positive message about Valspar as in “Testimonial” style of Advertorial, and here is is available with GLOBAL REACH.

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 2.41.39 PM

That was version that I FB’d earlier today.

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 4.15.42 PM

Again and looking at the power of GLOBAL REACH via “translators” — this really ups the ante on WordAds as Advertorials.

It is only ethical, in my opinion to give a true opinion or testimonial style ad, and show pictures that BELONG to me as I go.  Of the products I am actually using.  It would be the same with any stores that I am going to.

Nobody clicked through on FB.

So that was test #1 and I can try again as I think how I might do the linking as Advertorial.

ps: this part is really cute tooScreen Shot 2018-08-30 at 4.41.12 PM

Testing and trying WordAds two ways

So this is for WordPress Admins because I represent the average “non-tech” user is my guess, so I don’t mind talking about the process of finding my way in Gutenberg as I go.  In my earlier blog Valentine Bonnaire if I was doing a scholarly article I would link sources, so my guess is that this would work better if I was linking to things?

That isn’t hard for me to do.

I’m going to go back and make links to what I said yesterday and see if that changes the stats.  I wrote a little thing about choosing Valspar paints based on the gorgeous colors, but I did not run it through Facebook – today I will FB that, and it will be linked.

Things I do not understand yet?

Woo Commerce and how that connects or does not connect to WordPress Premium.

What is Blue Host and do I need it?

How does monetizing a blog actually work?

So the way that Gutenberg works is a bit different behind the scenes as I set up this blog.  I plan to keep it for many years, but in a sense it is like starting over, so brand new.

Right now FB and WP are the only two things I am using, this may change in the future.  So yesterday there were no “stats” for what I wrote.  That’s okay, I was just looking and took a pic.

Screen Shot 2018-08-30 at 5.17.29 AM

So here is the test I will try.

I’m going to go back into yesterday’s post and link to all the things I might think would want to advertise as local and national.

I am going to see if doing that and Facebooking the post as a test changes the stats?

So, still finding my way in Gutenberg as I go.

I ❤ WordPress!

I do.
